The Bible On Heresy

Romans 16:17-- "Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them."

1 Corinthians 11:18-19-- "For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it. For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you" From this verse we learn why God permits heresies and divisions to arise in the Church. Therefore, let us not be scandalized when we see divisions within the Church, but rather let us accept the occasion as an opportunity to show our steadfastness and dedication to the Orthodox teaching.

Galatians 5:19-21-- "Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God." Many people falsely assume that since they are not drunks, do not commit adultery, and have never murdered anyone that they are bound to get to heaven. This passage shows us that not only must we be morally upright to inherit the Kingdom of Heaven, we must also be doctrinally upright as well. This means staying within the boundaries of Orthodox doctrine if we belong to the Faith, or joining ourselves to this Faith if we are outside of it.

Titus 3:10-11-- "A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject; Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself."

2 Peter 2:1-2-- "But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of."

2 John 1:10-11-- "If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds."
